Awareness

amorrison22For some reason today I feel I should write about awareness.  Awareness to me means to be living in the present moment. It means to have your thoughts on the task at hand not on what is for dinner. Awareness requires that you know what you are thinking.  I have often wondered what it would be like to record every thought I had for 24 hours and then listen to it at the end of the day.  I’m not sure I would be impressed with myself.  I have certainly improved my thought management but I’m often guilty of getting stuck in my head, especially if I am mad.  Thoughts create emotions and emotions create physical symptoms. Our thoughts, INCLUDING OUR BELIEFS (even the ones we are unaware of), create our futures. Proven science.

Here are some ideas to help control your thoughts:

Send love to those you are angry with

Meditate, try cd’s or take classes if your clueless

When doing something think about only what you are doing.  Even if your walking try to think what it is you see. For example, tree, steps, birds, brown, etc. Think about what you are touching; soft, cold, etc.

Try thinking affirmations. Write down what you are good at and what you like about yourself.  Honor yourself for what you accomplish in a day no matter how small it seems. Think about this instead of what you have to do next.

Be grateful. Be grateful for what you can have has well and state it as though you have it. Every night before tucking my 6-year-old little girl into bed we say what we are thankful for and what we love.

Practicing the above will likely bring you greater awareness which will likely bring you greater peace.  We can not control the wars that go on, we have no control over others bad behavior (or what we perceive as bad), there will always be laundry and groceries and a to do list that never seems to get completed. We have great power in being aware of our thoughts and can choose if we want chaos or peace in our lives.

PEACE. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart. (Author unknown)

What are you going to choose?
