The Art of Meditation; One Way to Manage Your Mind

From the time I was a small child the power of the mind has always fascinated me.  In grade school I wanted to be a neurosurgeon and in college an anesthesiologist. As an adult my mind seemed to have a mind of its own and it was running my life.   Through my studies of the brain and of quantum physics I learned how powerful  my thoughts really are and decided I needed to manage my thoughts.

One of the ways I learned was through meditation.  Meditation is really just about focusing on being in the moment.  When you meditate your brain waves actually slow down.  Most of the time during the day our brain frequency is in Beta and we are constrained by left brain logic, time, and reason.  When you relax your brain waves slow down and you actually access your creative, healing, intuitive right brain.  With practice you can use both sides of the brain to accelerate healing, achieve greater success, improve your memory and so much more.  Even  if you simply learn to relax and be focused you will receive health benefits.

Meditation can be done by anyone, anywhere, and at any time. One breath can be a meditation.  Sometimes it is easier to meditate if you focus on an objest or chant a specific phrase.  There are guided meditation as well. Visualizing success is a great active meditation.  Certain types of music may be relaxing.  You can also listen to the alpha or theta sound to help lower your brain frequencies.  There are multiple websites that offer free downloads for you to try so that you can determine what works best for you. I personally have to alternate to suit my needs for the day.

Meditation doesn’t have to be for hours every day.  Do what works for you for however long works for you.  It is a skill and some days will be better than others.  The important thing is to make the effort to attempt it and to practice.
