Perception

One of my favorite quotes is “You can always choose to perceive things differently. You can focus on what’s wrong in your life or you can focus on what is right.” I’m sure this has been said by numerous people and in multiple places but I happen to read it in a Life Time Fitness magazine and loved it.  The important words are you and choose.  At any moment you can choose to change your perception if you are simply aware of your thoughts and feelings about the given situation.

For example if the car gets a flat tire on the way to work and washing machine broke the night before you could be getting frustrated. If you trust that everything happens for a reason you might become aware of the possibility that the flat tire may have prevented you from an accident. You might also see that because the washing machine quit working that you spent a little more time playing with your children instead of doing laundry.

Perception is a choice.  Have you ever looked at a picture with a group and see what it is AND THEN be told another possibility? As soon as the alternative was suggested you could then see both sides and choose how to define what you saw. You can use this piece of information in any situation.

Next time you are upset with someone, feeling sorry for yourself, claiming you don’t have enough time, being angry, or being critical of yourself stop.  Stop and evaluate the situation. Then choose to change your perception by listing the facts. The truth about what is really going on. You will be amazed at how much happier you will be! Remember you choose your perception of reality.
