85% of the Population Obese?

According to Experience Life magazine in less than 20 years 85% of the United States population will be either over weight or obese.  That is an alarming number! The incredibly sad thing is that is could be very easily be prevented through life style choices.

If that number alone doesn’t get you eating and moving right consider these statistics from Experience Life’s January/February issue this year:

2/3 of the American population is already overweight or obese

75% of Americans do not eat the suggested amount of fruits and vegetables suggested

70% do not exercise regularly, only 30% of Americans are moving

50% of  the population has at least one chronic disease

50% or more of the Unites States population is currently taking at least one prescription drug

Children and adolescents have 4 times the number of chronic health conditions than they did 40 years ago. (1.8% in 1960, 7% in 2004)

Nearly 1 in 2 men and almost 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer

The CDC suggests that the rate of diabetes will double in the next 25 years to 1 in 3 Americans

THIS COULD ALL BE PREVENTED!!!

PREVENTED!!! PREVENTED!!!

What about the financial strain?

75% of health care cost are directly related to lifestyle CHOICES

The 85% that need to lose weight is quickly becoming an epidemic that will cost fortunes

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services estimates the cost of healthcare for a family of 4 in 2009 were $33,000. They also project these to double in just a few years.

The cost to employers is triple the direct medical costs due to employees not feeling well, not being as productive, not being as focused, etc.

What does all of this mean? It means that are current standards of health care are failing.  It proves that we as Americans need to spend our time and money more wisely when investing in  health.  I continually hear how expensive it is to have a personal trainer or to buy organic food. I regularly have been told that there is not enough time to work out or even to meditate for 2 minutes to lower stress levels. These are all excuses. Trust me, I don’t always get it perfect, and  don’t have to either.  Aim for balance. Educate yourself. Make choices that point you in a direction of wellness.

These statistics clearly point that we have to make the time and invest money for something other than medical bills. THESE MEDICAL EXPENSES COULD LARGELY ALL BE ELIMINATED IF THE MONEY, TIME, AND EFFORT WERE PUT INTO LIFESTYLE CHANGES!!! THESE ILLNESSES ARE ALL PREVENTABLE AS WELL AS REVERSIBLE!!!  IT IS YOUR CHOICE!!! All you have to do is start eating, moving, and thinking in new ways and you will soon be feeling better physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
